Liberal In Name Only Poem by Francis Duggan

Our so called Liberal Government are Liberal in name only
As the concept of liberality they do not embrace
They are old style fifties conservatives
The name of liberal with them seems so out of place.

They fight the old fights with the Trade Unions
And they play their games of us and they
Yet meanwhile the working poor grow poorer
And more taxes they have to pay.

They govern for the wealthy only
And the gap between the haves and have nots is growing wide
But they will remain on in Government
As long as they keep the wealthy onside.

They call themselves the Liberal Party
One more lie to add to their many lies
Generosity to them is a stranger
They are old style conservatives in disguise.

Their fight is on with the Trade Unions
And they play their games of us and they
But the lower paid workers need their Trade Unions
And the Unions are with us to stay.
