Linlithgow Poem by Francis Duggan

Linlithgow

There is some water in Lake Linlithgow after recent heavy rain
But a Linlithgow full of water never to be seen again
The black swans have returned to Linlithgow in the shallow pools they feed
But to be restored to it's former glory months and months of rain 'twould need
Migrant waders from the Artic search for tiny mud dwelling things to eat
Slugs and invertebrates quite juicy to their taste buds taste quite sweet
Despite the recent heavy rains many creeks are bone dry
The paddocks green and lush and yet the thirsty earth for more and more rain cry
The drought it is not over yet and the warm Spring is near
And this thing known as climate change is a thing for all to fear
Some water into Lake Linlithgow from the higher ground did flow
And yet it is almost empty though a few decades ago
At weekends people used to water ski there till el nino sucked the lake dry
And despite the recent heavy rains the thirsty earth for more rain cry.
