Listen Poem by William Waterway

Listen

Listen

to you talk
express views
your take on life
what is important
in your mind
to share as story

crickets sound
distant car rolls by
swishes air
squishes ants
a chickadee sings

my mind watches lips
hears words
at the same time
talks
asks questions
perhaps thinking
things I need to do
where I am going next
a flash
on some
memory

we part

I wonder
the way you looked
some expressions
what we talked about
why
when we'll talk again
why
what if anything
said of importance

or, was it the unsaid
unseen by sensed
unspoken
acknowledgment
of
existence

then
I'm on to the
next

listen
