Long Live The Queen Poem by Deluke Muwanigwa

Long Live The Queen

See, its good to be back home
Title deeds locked up in safe
Family pictures on the shelf
Some on the mantelpiece
Mother-in-law on the wall
Looking after her daughter
Like she's not convinced
I am son-in-law with conviction

I ve just been to the plot
Our second home
The rains are late to come
The crops under irrigation are fine
There i am the boss
In Harare my mother-in-laws daughter is the queen
I am the subject explaining the subject of crop husbandry
The queen listens feigning interest

I have kale for her
I have butternuts for her
I have cucumbers for her
I have green mealie cobs for her
And tons of love for her
So the details of global warming
And tractor battery down
Just makes her frown

So never mind where i been
I bow, "Long live the queen! "
