Loose Ends Poem by Anisa Tara

Loose Ends

I've tried to loop these laces
That sit atop my feet
Tying and untying polyester
Between my fingertips

Two months of work
My endeavours all in vain
How do you tie up the past
After someone throws you away?

I've tucked away my devices
And thrown out your things
I've tried to run away
But I'm only tripping on strings

If you'd offered me reprieve
To the effect of a goodbye
I wouldn't be sitting here
Trying to knot up the whys

The dead don't talk
Although you haven't died
I'll tuck these shoes away
Leave these laces untied
