Love And Its Savages Poem by Timmy Tubbs

Love And Its Savages

Love and its Savages

So I cried
And hate flooded the body intravenously
And you and your ways
Became impossible to forget
But hard to remember
Each memory once tightened the belt
That gripped my heart
But this helped to loosen a notch
And start to pull it apart

I know all to well
This will come as a wrapped smile
Slip off your holy slippers
And forget me for a while
In a million years, we will be the ones spoken of
They will paint books of our images
And tell stories about how
Love turned us into savages

So a scratch to my belly
Isn’t followed by two smiles and an intricate dance
To your bed
For a slowed hour of clean love that got us salty
Followed by a long shower
I’ll get that spot if you get this one
And I’ll rinse your hair
If you promise not to stare down there
