Love In The Snow Poem by David Wood

Love In The Snow

Rating: 5.0

The snowman stood four feet tall
With buttons for eyes and a large
Red carrot for a nose, which drooped.
He stood alone in a front garden
Of somebody's large house.

He kept his thoughts to himself as
He stood motionless in the cold mid
Winter as a chill wind blew from the
East, though somebody put a red, white
And yellow woollen hat on his head.

One day, several children in the garden
Opposite built another snowman. He
Looked closer, no, it was a snow woman.
She had two pennies as eyes and a large
White parsnip for a nose, that also drooped.

He looked all day at her gradually falling
In love with her eyes and parsnip nose
She was his ice queen, a fair maiden to behold
And she, in turn looked lovingly back at him
A bent twig under her nose made a wry smile.

They gazed into each other's eyes as the cold
Days passed. They only had eyes for each other
Until one day the weather became warmer
And both the snowman and snow woman
Began to melt.

They continued to gaze into each other's eyes
As gradually they grew weaker and weaker.
Slowly they melted away until all that was left
Was the carrot and parsnip stranded in a
Puddle that once was the sum of their parts.

As each garden sloped to a central path, both
Puddles flowed towards each other, until they
Met in the middle and joined together as one.
Their love finally united as they formed a small
Sheet of ice on the path. Their love now complete.

Love can take many forms but comes from the heart
The look of love is never blind, and to gaze upon love
Even as time passes, where lover's play their part,
Is the glue that binds two lives. But Cupid from above,
First has to fire straight and true that well-aimed dart.

Good story but kind of sad, maybe they danced at night when no one saw. Anyway, not really a poem but a story's cool.10

Wonderful poem David. It is always a pleasure to read your poems. Love in the snow with your vivid description with button eyes and red carrot nose of snowman and snow women, is truly marvellous.

Am absolutely spell binding work David! . The imagination, conception and execution is masterful. Two lovers separated and yet united in the end, Im glad to read this and artistically jealous of the imagination. Thank you for sharing!
