love is a pattern
of light and shadow
of lace and dreams
that drift away
love is elusive
the sun that flees
into the final west
to drape despair
love teases memory
in veiled tenderness
of all that used to be
love is a mystery
but love escapes
the youthful fantasy
of lace and memory's dreams
and fades without embrace
