Love Rising Poem by Kevin Moore

Love Rising

How many times I’ve seen sun’s curtain rise
upon the theatre of the dawn! Yet, this
is not the fickle work of whimsy, no.
One trumpeting voice directs immortal bliss
and to that Love Creation still replies.

Only Love - Love without restraint- would so
patiently create day’s newly dawning rays,
though, as the artist finished painting or
the tired mother working without praise
knows, Love’s return is often but an echo.

(Could da Vinci for the Mona Lisa yearn?
Yet mothers long to see their children smile.)
A rose has thorns because it is a rose,
relationships grow thorns after awhile;
One suffered thorns embracing Love’s return.

One Love, alone and sole begotten true,
commanded with a Word all time and light.
Now, light and time by science are defined;
to catch a shadow on a moonless night’s
a smaller task than grasping Love undue.

How, when a child is shown a mother’s love,
could this small child do any less than grow
into a person who loves Another? No!
Selfish desire and pride does he show
when asked for simpler return from Above.

Such a simple return when saved from death!
Love’s sacrifice expressions should from fear
to adoration grow – still, even these
pale in the light, both merciful and dear,
of Love, Who freely gives Creation breath,

and dust, life. Now a mother’s love for her son
is recognized as such by one now grown
(at long last past all childish modes of thought)
when that which once but dimly mirrored is known
and faced with rising Love finds all doubt gone.

That mother’s Child alone has lit the way
from out of the darkness where all hope was lost.
The Shepherd of the ninety nine sought one
and has returned him, counting not the cost
of True Love - faithful ‘til that final day.

I saw a door, standing open Above,
heard voices loud with fear and praises swell,
and then I understood the cost to One
in bridging the gap between Heaven and Hell:
of charity, hope and love, the greatest is Love.

And now this son in Son’s Light wrapped is rising!
