Lydia Is An Ambidextrous Cat (Revised) Poem by NHIEN NGUYEN MD

Lydia is an ambidextrous cat
She can use her both arms equally well
For all of her activities of daily living
Such as for her grooming and eating.

Usually, I see her spoon water with her right paw
But this morning she drinks with alternated paws.
First, she spoons water with her right paw to drink
Then, she dips her left paw to drink more.

After few repetitions, she pauses her drinking.
With her half-opened lazy eyes, she sits quietly.
Then, she spoons water with her tongue rapidly.
In three years, I never see her tongue water.

LYDIA BIẾT DÙNG CẢ HAI TAY

Lydia dùng hai tay khéo léo
Dùng tay mặt, tay trái, giỏi như nhau.
Dùng hai tay trong cuộc sống mỗi ngày
Như là việc rửa lông và ăn uống.

Nó thường dùng tay mặt để uống nước
Nhưng sáng nay nó uống với hai tay
Dùng tay mặt múc nước, uống vừa xong
Rồi tay trái nó cũng làm như thế.

Nó ngừng tay sau mấy lần đổi uống.
Yên lặng ngồi, hai nửa mắt trông xa.
Rồi bất ngờ, lưỡi múc nước thật nhanh.
Trong ba năm, chưa thấy mèo uống lưỡi.
