M I L (Man In Love) Poem by ER Bron Chiong, RSW

In the movies, there's MIB (Men in Black)
but now, here's MIL (Man in Love) in poetry…

As a man in love
it will be forever as an old song says
but before that might happen
I have to love and respect her first
for who she is…

As a man in love
I will protect the woman I love
as I was taught by my sisters
when I was growing up—
I will put myself in the danger zone
and will never raise my hands against her
This was Dad's important reminder to us
the seven boys of our clan

As a man in love
I will stand up, take action
and be responsible for anything
including the blame for things not right

As a man in love
I will listen to opinions and remember
because the woman I love
is only one for me and a VIP (very important person)
no one can replace that person ever

As a man in love
I will stop everything I do when she needs me,
be with her and makes things happen--
an act of my devotion to the woman I love

As a man in love
I will miss you when you're away
Much more, I will miss you when you're gone
I will be hurting no matter what
but I will learn to move on and continue living
I will never replace you with someone else
You will forever be in my heart—
an eternal promise for me to fulfill in my lifetime
