Malu Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Malu

Malu

Read poem, Terisa's;
And told me, in mirror:
"You are an illiterate! "

Then heard her reciting
Found me an: "Ignorant."

Punched myself on the side:
"Get yourself together! "

She spoke of tattoos
Sternum, cleavage
And breasts to
Nipples.

I knew nothing of
The "Malu"
As sign of Indigenous
On the thigh and the leg
Or on chest, by breasts,
To expose mind's nature
Of women and or men.

Later saw the pictures
Mostly of Egyptians,
Saw ISIS and smiled
Since had it in my work
A movie, called: "Could Be."

I wrote and directed
Put on wall "From, " "To, "
With pictures adjacent,
Of girl's past, innocent
Follower of fashions
Becoming the learned
About wars, injustice…

My hero is Sadeq
Syrian (Not liar)
And girl of Canada
(Glory, Gloria …)
