Man And The Mermaid Poem by Abhay Vignesh Liginlal

Man And The Mermaid

The boat has arrived at the shore today
All that is washed away by the incoming tide
Will return when the clock strikes,
The sea god is always merciful
It is our problem if we cant swim
Or breathe under water,
Survival fails to bridge the gap
In between man and the mermaid,
This life is never their own to share
Like a son with burden on his shoulders
Or a daughter from some sacred home,
They are destined to their fate
For fins don’t match with feet;

The sea attempts to cross over to the shore
The sky is the witness to this futile attempt,
Its tears come down as showers
Blessing both the earth and the sea;

It is time for me to depart in the boat
I take leave today as I bid farewell
To my friends and family
My destiny is beyond
On a yonder shore,
I am a man & I hold the hands of the mermaid today
We both float away into the heart of the ocean,
The boat bids farewell to the shore for one last time;

Alas a storm is brewing above
The horizon is gloomy with impending doom
Should I wait for the storm to pass
Is prevention always better than cure
I suffer from the ailment of blind love
I pray to god to help me withstand the storm;

Hope never sated is like a seed at the edge of a cliff
The wind blows it away into some alien land,
Alas my roots are back on the shore
I will sink along with this love of mine
I will be reborn as yours my mermaid.
