Mariner's Id Card

Nowadays it sits securely in my wallet -
a card with my photo and fingerprint
issued by the Coast Guard
Identified as a merchant mariner
qualified as deckhand, wiper and
coalpasser
Once presented at the hiring hall
maintained by Lake Carriers Association
cardholder signed on a lakeboat
that sailed the season from Spring
into the storms of November
