Masquerade Poem by Brooke Boulanger

Masquerade

Round and round we go.
dancing, twirling, dipping
beautifull music blarring.

living in a masquerade
slowly all my worries begin to fade
In the arms of my anonymous lover
his identity? I have yet to discover

yet something tells me that I already know
I remember him from somewere
His strong presence
His soft embrace
the way i fit perfectly into his arms
Mind Blowing
our connection is undeniable

suddenly I feel his warm breath on my neck
and he whispers to me quietly
the three magic words
i've been waiting for my whole life
'i love you'

I love him too
but I can't help but wonder

what happens when the masks come off
and everyone is exposed for who they truly are?

will things still be the same?
or will we go on like nothing happened
