Matt 6: 28 Poem by Dan Byron

Matt 6: 28

Rating: 4.5

My passions had driven me for years and years,
All in the name of what had been called a career.
I looked back and saw a career of prostitution
I traded most of my values for money.

The morals in my life and the relationship with the Lord,
All had to be kicked aside, attacked with a salary’s sword.
In the name of “Politically correctness”, I watched,
The company embraced domestic partners and abortions.

To help compete, the company sent more jobs overseas
The horizon was dark and stormy to any who could see.
Driving to work each day, the question was, “Is this the day”?
One Tuesday the manager used the dreaded word “outsourced”.

At the age of 64, it appeared companies felt I was too old to be hired,
However, at 64, I was far too young to declare myself as being retired.
Health insurance costs, mortgage, electricity crushed in on me
When a small, soft voice whispered to me, “The lilies of the field”.

Matthew 6: 28 reminded me that I had nothing at all to fear
Life could be handled, as long as the Lord was kept near.
Yes, the bills and concerns would still, perhaps always, be there
But, if I stepped aside, the Lord provided comfort and guidance.

It seems I have been given a tremendous, powerful gift.
Working with my brother, his burdens we both can lift.
A smile, a handshake, a shoulder to lean on, a bit of food
May be all that is need to have him or her look up not down.

Being outsourced, while difficult and the source of much pain,
Can be dealt with if I step aside and simply let the Lord reign.
While I may not, as yet, have the value of the lilies of the field
I can use my time, talent and treasure to show others they are.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

It is inexcusable for one to dwell on the idea of being plucked out of a job as the end and the only end. It is a large task to trust in our Lord. You explained it all in this most inspiring poem. We all should be out helping others and leave the rest to Jesus. The Lilies of the Field. How great. love it. Michele
