Medicate Poem by Ibn Ali

Medicate

I stand alone
A man beside myself
I stand a clone
What does it take to medicate this pain
I am the sum of all the strengths before
All the sons my mothers bore
I am the pain
I strike with all the hurt and cry
Of theirs and mine

The sky looks enraged
And the clouds in trying to calm her look the same
Isn't there any apathy for sale
Or some kind soul to cauterize this bleeding heart
Sear the flesh, crushed nerves make me impermeable to pain
Commiserations

It's dawned on me that I cannot resist you
So I'll keep away
Tales told to toddlers of princes
It seemed a formality
We're accustomed to happy endings
We've grown cynical
It's been a while since we were children
She returned my clothes
Kept my unrequited love
She stole the pearl then returned the empty shell
You ricocheted and hit your target
The deathly blow undealt
But the impact of you can still be seen and felt
Any woman after you is doomed
A decade after you's too soon
Let it go, let it go
I suspect she feels the same
But she hides it well and keeps a straighter face
