Memory Poem by Monos Unalos

Memory

The vault whereto always proceed
The robbed of their Reality,
By Time revolving in the sky,
Revoking the immutate eye.

The Butterflies, which slip and laugh and
Dive,
Are from their bodies metamorhpo-
Sized.
Like broken eggs engendering new
Life,
The butterflies become dragons
Of strife.
The Gorgon ghouls already there
Contained,
That wrap the soul in awful, grinding
Chains,
And strip the pysche of its airy
Wings,
Do chastize and consume all that
Which sings.
The crazed, lunatic ghost of Never -
more
Rules there with the stark, vicious Raven's
Claw,
Flapping in rage his bony, horrid
Wings,
By whose woof the putrid echoes
Ring.
A shattered land of never-ending
Vice -
Indulgent demons which make of men
Mice;
And clasp upon the naked, natural
Form
Steel girdled armor, which only
Deforms.
And when into the Realm new bodies
Come,
Whether in Harmony or dipped
In rum,
The Wretched Bird upon them throws his
Gaze,
And instantly in iron do they
Blaze;
Transmuted to become like other
Guests:
The Raven's weary slaves, at his
Behest;
Augmenting in pain his Might and
Power,
Ensuring he shall evermore
Devour.
