Mindfog Poem by Alison Rosalie

Mindfog

this day
the frost has
frozen over glass, and
the doors are snowstuck shut

fog is dense,
milky like blind eyes
and my feet fall
through unexpected inches
when i step past sidewalk
onto snowsuffocated grass

pairs of ghostlights drift along
the road, roaring and humming
as they hover in the quiet,
trying to find still in the snowstorm.

a morning
where we awaken
to the same night
we slept to –
moon overstaying its welcome
while the sun struggles
to shine through the gloom.

and i know across the city
you are somewhere wandering
in the eyes sleepstuck shut of an
everchanging dreamland.
and you will wake to the fog lifting
drifting upwards past your windowsill
the still trees shaking in frost coats
as the sun finally shines
prying open your sleepy eyes.
