Minstrel Poem by Rod M.Peters

Minstrel

Rating: 5.0

A dazzled worm peering out of a red apple;
A painted dinosaur grazing on freshly
Dewed grass while a giant meteorite
Looms on a rose-coloured Paleolithic sky;
A cellphone melting on the hot pavement
Of a busy street;
Three blind mice leading a parade
Of angry civil servants;
Twelve strokes of the tower bell
Scattering all the pigeons away…
Just another ordinary day
Where the commonplace vies to be noticed
By the dreamy eye of a wandering Minstrel.

if i stick the link, you sent me in a message, into a PH search box, i end up with MORE searching to find your poem. if i put it into a new link i get Google choices i must go through. BUT IF I put the link plus Rod Mendieta into a new tab, i come up easily with a link to this page. i don't know why the link did not work. WAIT! ! ! i DO know! ! i only used the partial link, as i'm used to putting into the showcase listings! ! ! ok, THAT WORKED. ha ah. and along my poem-hunting way i found this interesting 'minstrel' poem: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - “Minstrel Man, ” by Langston Hughes. Because my mouth Is wide with laughter And my throat Is deep with song, You do not think I suffer after I have held my pain So long? Because my mouth Is wide with laughter, You do not hear My inner cry? Because my feet Are gay with dancing, You do not know I die? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ok, back to the 'present' you presented me with for Part A of September's showcase of poems(on my PH site) . i KNOW you are using some symbolism here! i don't digest or use symbolism well. call me uneducated, un-poetic, what-have-you; just don't call me 'late for dessert'. and that AIN'T symbolism! ! ! pie tonight, dear? ha! like i EVER get dessert around here! some lines i enjoyed: Twelve strokes of the tower bell Scattering all the pigeons away… Just another ordinary day .....................of course i've enjoyed seeing birds for most of my life. i was born in a chicken coop. believe that? i'll tell you another lie. your poem is short and amusing and causes no harm, AND you 'offered' it to me, and FINALLY got it on PH and sent a link. good boy. very soon, today if PH cooperates, i'll have this poem in Part A of Sept.2017's showcase of poems. did i say that already? and, what the heck, into MyPoemList as well. Thanks. bri :)

I knew I had to include at least one bird to capture your attention! Now, the chicken coop thing would explain the endless cackle...Nah! just joking... Thanks Bri!
