“Miseries Defeat”
by M Paul Burress
Not in data base, nor yellow page,
Can misery’s lair be found,
It slips in here, and shoves in there,
To follow folks around.
People howl, and things go foul
As this eraser, of human smile,
Drags it’s prey, to favorite place,
The bottom of the pile.
When spoiler of plans, on doorstep lands
And enters into room,
In rapid pace, it paints a face,
A study, in shades of gloom.
Can misery be beat, knocked off it’s feet,
Sent packing, bale, bag and poking stick?
Of course, it can, and by this plan,
If “Whatever’s Right”is the path I pick.
The path leads, to better clime,
But requires, some by and by,
At end of way, well, bless the day,
Shinning sun, clear blue sky.
The sum total of our life, it is said, is equal to the choices we have made, that is, excepting for the ten percent or so Providence throws in which we have no control over. Bad things do happen to good people too.
