Mom Poem by chris schwartz

Mom

I walked through the door
Saw her hands holding her head
Bowed on the table
Where we all had thanksgiving.
I sat down by her
Seemed like I was miles away
From a time, not long ago
That we were all living.
I couldn't mutter a word
As I sat next to her
Wasn't long after
She took her last breath.
Her glassy eyes looked at me
In the emergency,
And I said, "Mom,
I love you to death."

She had lost her man
I had lost my Daddy
He let us fall
When we felt like
Falling.
But things got real tough
Hard to understand
When the angels came
To Calling.
At the table that night
She just looked at me
And surrendered
To the storm
That life gave her
I still miss my mom
I still cry sometimes
Cause I was
Unable to save her.
I was just unable
To save her.

Buried side by side
Are my Mom and Dad
They spent 13 months
Separated.
The flowers on their grave
I pray, it gives them peace
On what they have created.
