Moniker Poem by Bharati Nayak

What is in a name?
Says bard of Avon
But did he envision
How important is it for men?

A child from baby stage
Grows with a name
He responds to his name
And the name stays with him for life long
Unless he chooses to change it
After becoming an adult.

Names can have
positive or negative connotation
And so can affect a person's personality
Positively or negatively.

Psychological research has found that
A unique name stands out
and attracts attention among others, whereas
An unappealing name may lower the confidence of a person.
A name suggests how others perceive us and
How we feel about it.

Perhaps the kings of yore knew this
They attached long titles to their names
To make them weighty.
Parents should be careful while naming their babies
As a child having an unappealing name
may become a butt of jokes by his peers.

But in spite of what parents have named you
Strive always that, not your name,
But your works speak for you.

With many in the past and they all refused when a alternate name was suggested to them, I said its all destiny that your parents choose a name for you and you disapprove it later... Just sharing my thoughts and experience with you.
