Monopoly Poem by bob barci

Monopoly

Like everyone else,
I have me a dream.
A dream to come up with
a set of winning words.
Words to win me a contest.
Not just any contest,
but a poetry contest.
Oh, I've tried, many times.
I've lost count
of all the poetry contests I've entered.
I've sent out set after set of words.
No luck though.
I know I'm being noticed
due to all the certificates
and honorable mentions.
They're nice, but I'm tired of them.
I need to win one, or two, or three.
Winner's lists only bring disappointment.
They also bring annoyance.
Seems like the same people always win.
The same group of people
always get the top prizes.
No one else but them wins.
Seems they have a monopoly.
So long as people like
Clay, Tom, The Johnson's, and Alice,
continue to write and enter,
I have no chance what-so-ever.
They are the culprits I speak of!
And they are not alone!
So come on you guys!
Give the rest of us a break.
Continue to write yes,
but hold off on entering contests
for say, six months, a year.
Quit hogging all the prize money
and let someone else, like me, win.
