Moon Shine Poem by Dereck Gibbs

Moon Shine

I kissed my sunrise goodbye
The darkness seduces me
The light my army’s deserter
Lonely is my heart’s general
A solitary figure dreaming
Basking in the moon’s embrace
A wolf howling in pain
Fruitlessly reaching for her love
She’s in front of me….yet so far
She flaunts her light
Taunting me
Showing me what’s no longer mine
Isaac took away my birthright
For I was a fool, the King’s jester
Everyone laughs
But I don’t share in the joke
The night is too cold to laugh
All alone I dream of you…my moonshine
Forever lost in darkness without you
