More Than This Poem by Kewayne Wadley

More Than This

Rating: 5.0

Section 8 housing, overpriced cheap
Apartments
Three to four children
I can't remember his face
Daddy didn't care

Clothes littered everywhere
Empty cartons, overfilled trash cans
Mama doing the best to make ends meet.
Did daddy think to care.

The doors open at 8
The line starts way before then
Daddy help me understand why

Overworked fingers,
Privileges ripped away from abuse
Somebody who knows somebody
Where's daddy to care.

Lobby audiences in wait
Overfilled offices littered with case officers
Daddy food stamps only go so far

At a young age
Mama moves like grandma
Daddy don't you know she's tired
Sick and tired of being sick and tired

Coming home from work
Frustrated, tired. finding her hours are being cut short.
Shouting, beating me for reasons
I don't quite understand.
Is it because I look like you.

I need more than this.
Daddy please help me to understand
