Mortal Enchantment Poem by Megan Lacey

Mortal Enchantment

The summer moonlight, warm and uncanny,
Showering upon the brook as rain.
Shadowed yet were those two-
So engulfed in one another, never seeing:
Spirits of the earth and air,
And nymphs of water giggling,
Behind the piles of the footbridge.
All watching this mortal enchantment:
Sylphs, sighing in the wind,
Longing for corporeal embrace.
Gnomes, blushing for want of voice,
Naiads gurgling- merry wantons.
As the lovers provide the last element-
And heat the night with their mingled warmth.
