Motive Poem by Hans Raj Sharma

Motive

Reflection
Matters a lot
In social life
Wide-ranging
Inkling
Of a man
Inadvertently
Or wittingly
By his words
Appearance
And deeds
By his reputation
That he earns
In the society
By virtue of
His character
Acts and conduct
Enjoying good-will
As real asset
Known-
In the world
By the image
That he leaves
On the mind
Of others
And the amity
He keeps.

Reflecting
Real image
Of his own mind
Established
Either pure
Or infected
The people think
And talk of-
Cherish about
Some may be
Taken in by
Or get misled
And duped
For pretty
Some time
As one can
Befool a few
For long time
And some for
Some times
But, not all
For all the times.

A foul motive
Invites disaster
As inevitable
Law of nature
Enshrines-
One who digs
A pit for others
One day falls
Itself into it.
