Mt. Everest Summit Reached Poem by Terence George Craddock

Mt. Everest Summit Reached

like all great attained goals
Mt. Everest is summit reached
a few final exhaustion steps

at a time step pause step pause
step pause each pause can
be seconds a few seconds a minute

or two paused in utter exhaustion
great goals like Mt Everest summited
are achieved in fair weather windows

after extensive preparation
acclimatization an early start
dogged determination final

few immortal steps to goal
then final goal attained
standing upon summit on

rooftop of the world until
long long slow climb down
to first decent camp climb

not over until final safe return
all goals reached must still
be protected with continued

effort determination
to passing time sustain
position reached

determination to sustain position reached
