My Countrymen Poem by Ananta Madhavan

My Countrymen

When Immanuel Kant said,
“Human beings are ends”,
He included you and me.
Strange he should have had
Such prescience.

When Latin poet Terence said,
“Nothing human is alien to me”,
Was he speaking for himself?
He could not have foreseen
The modern airport lines and customs.

More than a billion Indian ends;
Let not all of them be alien to me.
