My Death Walks Beside Me Poem by Sheri Green

My Death Walks Beside Me

My Death walks ever beside me
the counter to my life's frame

A most steadfast and constant companion
an innate shade without a true name

A shadow within my own vestige
the twin to my mortal being

An enduring and resolute fellow
who's presence is most guaranteeing

His claim is that most mightily cherished
as we forever walk but a breath apart

The price cannot be bartered or settled
pleading nor begging will not make him depart

So timorous and tempered I firmly resign
embracing life's antithetical mate

So we continue to walk ever side by side,
patiently awaiting the summons of fate
