My Departure Poem by Oyekake Satty (O S) Joshua - Amopho

My Departure

Rating: 5.0

And when my assignment here is over
And my time in this place fully spent
And if heaven would smile at me then
And restore me - my vocation enliven
And if I never see you again in this life
Reflections of your presence do linger:
The joy and the pleasure of your smile
Your countenance of beauty and peace
They are locked within me, and secured
And the memories replete at every turn

The lift your greetings gave to life here
Will become one day the joy of readers
The invocation of poets and young lovers
The quotes and stolen-lines of songwriters
These words your genuineness brought out
Which where doled by a chanced meeting
And by contrast of two distinct characters
And their marked and blatant differences
And their lasting influence on my existence
And these lines will be the gem of friendship
