My Existence Poem by Michael Ernst

My Existence

Rating: 5.0

I watch as the sun sets and feel the burning of its weight upon my empty chest
I feel the labored pulsing of my broken half heart, as it tries to push what life is left inside me through deadened veins

The distant wails of a shattered soul in search of its missing yet omnipresent mate echo in the caverns of my mind that once held only hopes and dreams

Soon darkness comes before me, bringing shadowy images of a lost love dancing with dripping eyes mocking my pain

Once again I close my eyes just to catch a glimpse of her for a moment
But just as she reaches for me I once again find myself aware that she is gone
And I return to this deservingly tortured existence
