My Husband The Occasional Garbage Man Poem by Sandra Dodd

My Husband The Occasional Garbage Man

Why do you
when confronted with
behavior unbecoming a spouse
turn into the garbage man
marauding through the house?

When told “uh, no you cant? ”
or 'way unfair slowdown'
Do you go on a rant
“you can get out,
Why the hell don’t you
take it to a lawyer” rant?
Really what is it that makes
it okay to tell me to go date
some other, not be your bother?

After so many years
of climbing out
of the garbage can
you throw me in
instead of talkin'
I wonder what
it would be like
to not have to
crawl out
to forgive you.
Why dont you just not
throw me in?

I am getting too old
its too painful
crawling out
of your can.
Getting arthritis of the rant.
Gout of the bully chant.
Goiter on my forgive
the garbage man.
Do me a favor
if that is how you feel,
just pull me to the curb
and leave me be.
Otherwise shut up, grow up.
Like a gentleman
come get me out.
