My Life Was Like The Light-Of-Day Poem by Peter Mamara

My Life Was Like The Light-Of-Day

by M. Eminescu (1850-1889)

My life was like the light-of-day. And my sky was bright.
Hope — the golden star — had shined at my chest
Until, oh fallen angel you! You suddenly came into my heart.

And two stars shined with a faint blaze, on my life's sky.
And the spirit of luck leaves me in this world: lonely.
It vanishes in a void of clouds and dreams.

A ray from your stare had blackened my days.
The divine hope had fled from my heart.
My luck has switched off its star…
Only if you could love me: oh angel of spite, you.

But, no… You fly on your way, from my world of insignificance.
You shall step with your feet on a golden arena.
While I, lost into my night, I shall hope in vain.
Since, I dream about you, on and on.
