My Poetics Poem by Ahamad Ilyaas Vilayathullah

My Poetics

I'm not a poet,
In the conventional sense of the term.

I'm not a poet,
If poets are those
Who foolishly and thoughtlessly
Wander in the valleys
Of all kinds.

I'm not a poet,
If poets are those
Who keep talking
About big ideals
That they've no intention
Ever to bring into practice.

I'm not a poet,
If poets are those
Who never want to repent
For the big blunders
And the matchless mischiefs
That they've embarked upon.

I'm not a poet,
If poets are those
Who do not want to enrich
Their life with the rubies, gems, emeralds
And all other precious stones
That their good deeds are,
What they bequeath to the posterity.

I'm not a poet,
If poets are not comfy wombs
For the embryos of big truths.

I'm not a poet,
If poets are those
Who do not want to share
The truths that their smithies burn
With the fellow human beings.

I‘m not a poet,
If poets are those
Who do not care for
What life on this planet is.

I'm not a poet,
If poets are those
Who do not want to make
Others think about the sense
And nonsense of their existence.

I'm not a poet,
If poets are those
Who aim nothing
But fame and wealth.

I'm not a poet,
If poets are those
Who serve other masters
Besides the one and only true master
That created them.

I'm not a poet,
If poets are those
Who create beauty
And do not admit
The gift in them to be
A trust in their hands,
A test divine,
For a spell known.

I'm not a poet,
If poets do not want
To explode at the kind
Of untruth and injustice
That even make the skies
And the earth explode.

I'm not a poet,
In the conventional sense of the term.
