My World Poem by derrick foster

My World

Rating: 2.5

the womb was my world
cozy and warm
my mom was my world
keeping me safe and secure
my grandparents were my world
teaching me manners and faith
Madea's bookshelf was my world
opening my mind creatively
books were my world
taking me to places yet to see
school was my world
introducing people different from me
my neighborhood was my world
a place i could spread my wings
the library was my world
stretching my imagination, freeing me
my friends were my world
opening my heart to others
my work was my world
affording me independence
college was my world
extending my knowledge of life
the city became my world
a playground of variety
music is my world
opening my emotion, serenading my spirit
travel is my world
the muse supporting my desire for adventure
nature is my world
tapping into the serenity of my mind
my heart is my world
extending to all open to it
hugs are my world
sharing them broadens my love to many
my world is vast, intimate and complex
as it continues to evolve
growing and shrinking
to fit any new experience
i emerge confident, generous and fulfilled
in the wholeness of
my own personal journey
