Name Changes Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Name Changes

Name changes

Read sign:
- "Axe-smith"
Then:
- "Tepee"
-and
- "Kings-lake"
-got drunk of the joy
-and thought of
-collecting all the names
-putting them in place
-with image and footage
-and to leave reminder
- "Here was a village,
-with the mills and brooks,
-and few huts, graves…"

It makes me feel sick when
-I cross the "Don-Mills"
-many roots and windings
-like "Eagle"
- "Stone of Sparrow"
-and there is no trace
-of the mill,
-or stone, sparrow

Love and hate Toronto
- (The city expanded
-as once did the L.A.)

Both flat in a way
-the hillsides are levelled

Streets are widened
-and building have risen
-to kill the marshlands and
-animals, fishes, birds

Want to kiss footsteps
-of those who lived in tepees
-where are they?
