Nanuq Wears Dancing Shoes Poem by gordon nosworthy

Nanuq Wears Dancing Shoes

watch out beware polar bear is over there
try as hard as moon vaulting
you can't mask yourself from nanuq
she actually wants you to camouflage
she wants to run you down
you'll be bleeding nanuq'll be grinning &gnawing

nanuq screams when she defecates
a fact check that shakes out across the ice &snow
she can't hide what we all see &hear
she immediately blames wolf because she can't blame raven
she would blame angler but no one would believe
someone that small could be responsible for something that big
sometimes she gets away with blaming shamen
&they don't care

in spite of what you think you can't tame her
she chows down on hearts &livers &brains
she finds egos to be a particularly tasty daintiness
just plain or bathed in mexican bbq sauce
she likes it hotter than where she lives
in the wind &ice beside the black black hole

nanuq sees herself as an insurgent
a secret agent who doesn't abide by benchmark rules
she smuggles in slippery thoughts of free will
when everything is so locked &frozen
when everything wears the impenetrable hide of the walrus
unwilling to be open be exposed to risk &experience

polar bear lives through the use of metaphor
allusions don't tell the complete truth
they are not what you see is what you get
they only look like what you think only feel like what you might feel
because the moment you reach out to touch them
that isn't what they're for &they disappear

wolf knows better than to trust polar bear
raven squawks at her when she is pretending
angler knows that nanuq is at her most dangerous
when she is a metaphor of nonchalance &balance &frigidity
when she uses her huge paw to marginalize &belittle
that's polar bear with her ice dancing shoes on
