Neo-Constructivist Strut Poem by Denis Mair

Neo-Constructivist Strut

Rating: 5.0

- - -For Nico Vassilakis and his Vispo Art

Take a pinch of calligraphic strokes in white

rotate to make corollas with no center

overlay arcs of translucent tape in mauve

like the white strokes but splayed out at a different scale

run latin letter strings along the stroke lines

some letters over-typed and chimerical

way down below are black tapes punctuated by red spots

within the red are little black letter clusters

graphic fantasies in microcosmic bubbles

half cancelled by white dots of conceptualism

a yellow scrim of calligraphic strokes holds the center

countered by a rotation of latin letters in pale blue down below

it is still mostly done by extended hand

could AI perhaps be creeping in, making those clusters in confined places? ...

the AI is still a servant; don't ask what commands were used

that's between the artist and his Caliban

as this series unfolds, we wouldn't want to ruin any mysteries...

the big layout is definitely still done by the extended hand

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Inspired by the image below the poem, from the 'Verbo/Visual' series by Nico Vassilakis. Btw, this poem was written as a first impression, so I mentioned AI. Nico later told me that no AI was used to make his Vispo images../ 'Vispo' stands for 'visual poetry.'
