Night Walkers Poem by Olufayo Ezekiel

Night Walkers

The firmament dwellers,
that walk at night,
like moon;
that brightens the earth,
and the stars;
that twinkle at night,
all they do,
is to radiate a folkloric-happiness
in the heart of creatures.

Why not walk at noon?
oh! daughters of Jezebel,
that parade the street-out-of-sun,
veiling their faces with darkness,
to sell their markets in naira.

Why not sleep tonight?
oh! gunmen that visit without alarm,
like monsters; they masquerade
under moon's face, to hunt men.
like rat; they always sneak from others,
making owners cry at escapees.

Do not vampirise tonight!
coven my innocent voice not!
for the innocent blood,
will be bitter than bitter leaf.
oh! mother-bird, that flies
like bat, with her thousand wings,
cannibalise not the infants!
take a turn! go visit the wickeds
with your misery,
and bald them like vulture.

Beware!
son of the iron god,
against your predacious preys.
do not slumber!
the guardian that guides,
for the full moon has come with
miseries, and foes cascading locustly
into your world,
get not tired!
for the teary people in
pain,
are resting on your ancestral
mountain,
to survive another scare.
