No More Poem by Savannah Lewis

No More

The winter breeze blows silently in the still of the night
Barren trees flow gently from the left to the right
He talks to me from the darkness
Seeing only me in the light
He and my dream share such a likeness
Tall and overpowering
Yet small in comparison
Intelligence overbearing
Words not declaring
Why am I here
What role must I play
The suns starting to rise, I can now see his eyes
Gently caressing mine
His stare draws me near, Do I dare
I take my first step towards him
Stopping as the ground begins to shake
The dirt crumbles at my feet
Falling into a bottomless pit
No more can I walk forward, I must retreat
Escape the way I came, A yell from within shouts at me
You must go to him, The only way to go,
Be faithful, Trust your heart
Know your place, Trust yourself
I turn around, He’s still standing there
Calling to me with his welcoming eyes
I gaze deeply in them and take a step forward
I keep walking, No looking back
Nothing to lose, Only to gain
A thick fog covers my path
I can no longer see his gentle eyes
I continue walking forward, blind
I’ve no more path, I’ve no more pain
I’ve no more light, I’ve no more to give
Again and again I fail, no more
Again and again I try, No more
No more…. No more.
