Nola Poem by Annabel Cruz

Nola

Rating: 5.0

She’s an aristocratic lady
Turning tricks on the streets.
Her silk and colored ribbons
Lying dirty at her feet.

She decorates her crumbling face
With plastic beads and baubles.
And wears a mask to hide all trace
Of all her fears and troubles.

Though she is kicked and spat upon,
She wears a smile that’s gay
Inviting all to join the fun….
**“Laissez bon temps rouler! ”

*NOLA – New Orleans Louisiana
**French Creole expression for “Let the good times roll”.
Phonetic pronunciation /layzay bon tomps rulay/…last word rhymes with “gay”
