Not All Men Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

Not All Men

Not all men prefer blondes
With vacant minds
And naked thighs,
At least not for long.

Any man who tells you to be less
You can forget as quickly as he
Sets his eyes on an easier prize
And slinks away silently in the night.

Any man who isn't scared by you isn't sane.
But if that doesn't make him want to stay
Just to see what destruction you wreak
And how you turn the debris into a masterpiece,

Just let him drift away with the rest of the jetsam.

Eventually some man will float by
In a sailing skiff or an inflatable raft
Sunblind and starving,
But belligerently surviving.

Let him save you like Ferdinand
Be his Miranda
Be his temptress
Be his west wind.

Then set off together,
His sails and your weather,
Into whatever future awaits
Two souls unafraid of Fate.
