Oblivion Poem by Ali Rahimi

Oblivious to the needs of others,
Disregard for your own needs, total forgetfulness,
“Bomber” Harris Bombing of Dresden, heavy bombers,
The town was bombed into oblivion, heedlessness,
Heavy bombers dropped tons of bombs, killed 25ooo people,
Concentrated the fire, hurricane, hell on earth,
Halabja chemical attack, harrowing genocide,
Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki,
Ethnic cleansing in Bosnia Herzegovina,
Genocidal mass slaughter of Tutsi and Hutu in Rwanda,
Nazi concentration and extermination camps,
To purge German society of 'racially undesirable elements',
Jews, criminals, homosexuals, and Romani people.
I want to guzzle waters of oblivion, waters of Lethe,
You drink of that river, and absolute forgetfulness,
Want to decay my memory!
Insensible to past, present and even future,
Oblivious to tragic events, our stupidities,
Politicians’ injustice, leaders’ suppression,
I am seeking a lapse of reason, failure of my senses,
Oh memory, I hate you, just leave me alone,
Your tenacious grasp, firm claws, slicing canines get on my nerves,
Oh, memory, I am trapped in your cage, you have imprisoned me, torture me,
Enough is enough, yes, I am a rebel against my own memory!
Elimination of all dates, names, disasters, failures,
Mistakes, follies, dishonesties, disloyalties,
Oh amnesia, you are my solace, you are my real friend,
Hug me, amnesia, smile at me, your smile is genuine,
You are my shelter, my salvation,
Happy are the psychopaths, morons, retards, and sexual predators,
No feeling of remorse,
No sensory concept, no feelings,
Limbo, yes, a state of limbo, amnesia,
Permanent unconsciousness, like after death unawareness,
There’s nothing else, nothing else matters,
Normal average human being, no morality, no codes of conduct,
No worries, get drunk, get stoned, disregard all rules and regulations,
If you gonna die tomorrow, go for a party and enjoy,
Total carelessness, lovely indifference,
Insensibility to others’ plots and animosities,
Nirvana, absolute weightlessness,
Sweet unawareness, sweet tabula rasa, sweet blank memory!
I don’t give a damn to impending natural disasters,
Humans use nuclear weapons for a costly victory,
An alcoholic continually drinks, an opium eater stones himself to euphoria,
Leaders are oblivious to people’s needs,
Leaders have memory wipe, consciousness slip, humanity void, justice elimination,
Oblivion, oblivion ……………….
