On Getting A Call From My Girlfriend (Asking To Borrow $) Poem by D A Phinney

On Getting A Call From My Girlfriend (Asking To Borrow $)

when from a dream i heard a horn
all distance and all pride were gone
timeless senses woke themselves
like sprites and faeries, gnomes and elves
reminding me how i was moved
to look and see how dreams are proved
then was i bade to have a peek
at the innocence all hearts seek
in forest deep i saw the good
behind your bark is more than wood
panther guards the deepest part
where simple truth is in the hart
the greatest gifts are spirit-borne
like wonder in the unicorn
obligation cannot ken
the meaning of my love, my friend
friendship makes both two and one
(this is a gift) and not alone
