One Day Too Late Poem by Andrus Cassian

One Day Too Late

Rating: 5.0

I'm cold, lost
What's right, how do I feel tonight
Random questions accompanied by uneasy answers
a disclaimer upon my heart: do not restart
The environment to encompass me
shades its vibrant tinted hues to scenes of black and white
What is this sadness to rush over me
is my comprehension beginning to turn stale
Is the world trying to tell me something
as I hear the wind violently slap my ear
forcing my gaze to descend upon the grass
to the cold hard fact: I'm one day too late
the girl I love is gone
How can this be
I was so obsessed with the writing on the wall
I didn't hear what they were trying to say
One single tear followed by a waterfall
I'm an empty shell and I can't look away
The sky now has my attention, a storm to brew
I try to scream for it to rain on me
but I get hail instead
my balance is lost as rocks greet my knees
I curse the world for taking away
what made this lone wolf feel like
he was finally at home
but the world curses me in return
a smug smirk upon its face
I shout in anger, in sorrow
a spear in the face of someone I loved
I shout in silence, a bargain to be made
so I plead with the forces who stole my love
here take me instead, I'd rather not see her all alone
but lightning strikes, her body now ashes
a quick flash, a maniacal laughter to follow
a not no subtle sign that I'm now all alone
