ONE NATION, MORE NOTIONS

By the command of our headmaster,
"Arise o compatriots, " we intoned with serenity,
"One nation"- so we sang,
"...Bound..." We chorused negligently,
Like a giant wrestles with ants,
"...In freedom..." the final echo leased the air,
In one voice with diverse minds we hailed,
"...Peace and unity"- I laughed within.

Indeed! It is a nation with diverse notions,
A nation with distant cultures,
Different goals with a mission.

If monkey is buckled up and fastened to a tree,
How can it enjoy the pleasure of the branches?
If a lamp is turned on and quietly placed inside khaki,
How can it display its treasure at night?
While a nation is in bondage,
Can she taste a pinch of freedom?
