Only If You Knew Poem by Lauren Harper

Only If You Knew

I wish you could see the sorrow,
I wish you could see the pain.
How could you stand so close
Yet not see what remains?

If you could look into my eyes.
If you could see me.
If you could understand,
What this is doing to me.

The words may never leave my mouth.
They may never speak my mind.
Not in this life,
Not not in this line.

What else is there to say?
How can I explain this to you?
I don't know what you want to hear.
I don't know what to do.

If I reveal who she is.
If I mention what she's done.
Will it be me that falls?
Or will you understand little one?

If you knew me
What would you say?
Would you get up and walk forever away?
Would you think of I not the same?
