Only The Memories Now Do Remain Poem by Francis Duggan

Only The Memories Now Do Remain

Perhaps i will never more live near Millstreet Town
Where i grew from a boy to a man when my hair was dark brown
But going back the years this now seems long ago
And time that rusts iron has since become my foe
Our memories are our only link to the past
This is all of the what was in us that does last
In Coolikerane Bog and on the Inch field ground
In our games of soccer fun did abound
The old fields where i grew to love Nature when i was a young boy
And learning of her ways today i enjoy
But the fields of the badger and the waterways of the brown trout
In distance far north of this Land of the south
And only the memories now do remain
Of what used to be but will not be again.
